I finished my Europe book today. It's a shame I wasn't born in Europe, because I would have made on helluva European. =P
And the sad thing is I have no real heritage to attach to if I ever go to Europe. I can go to Scotland, and say "My last name is very common here!" Or I could go to Ireland and be like "Hey, I'm mostly related to y'all!" Or I could go to England, or Hungary, or France (Alsace specifically), or Germany, or the Netherlands and be like "I could be related to one of you!" But there's nothing really overriding anything else. Hell, I'm only, what, 26% Irish?
When I was younger I wanted to be part Mongolian or Chinese. Don't ask me why, because I do not know.
So anyway, back on topic. Europe book. I finished it. It finished with two options for the future. Either: The U.S. wises up to our growing equal across the pond, embraces it, and capitalizes on it, or the U.S. burries its head in the sand and the dollar eventually crashes and burns, leaving our country as a former superpower.
In most of Europe, Portugal specifically, you don't get arrested for having drugs in your possesion. For hard drugs, like heroin and cocaine, if it is determined you have enough on you to be considered a "dealer", you get sent to prison, but if it is deemed you have only enough for "personal use", you get sent to rehab. And most countries don't care about marijuana and ecstasy use. Pretty different from here, eh?
I went to the Coinstar machine at Foodtown today. I had $73.57 in coins. Well, actually I had $80.76, but Coinstar deducts 8.9% of your money. But hey, $73.57. I'm rich!
And have I mentioned how much I love music? Yesterday I downloaded 6 songs ("We Run This" - Missy Elliott, "Over My Head (Cable Car)" - The Fray, "Semi-Charmed Life" - Third Eye Blind, "Nobody Knows" - The Tony Rich Project, "Holding Out For A Hero" - Emery, and ""I Like The Way (Radio Edit)" - Bodyrockers) and I'm in love with all of them. (Except Holding Out For A Hero because for the last minute it turns into a screamo song, and I hate screaming music, but the rest of the song is just fine). Over the course of this vacation, I (a)bought two new CDs, (b)found artists, titles, albums, and genres for nearly all of my music that did not have one or the other, (c)organized both my iTunes song wishlist and my own Word Doccument CD wishlist, (d)listened to all my music I ever bought on iTunes (since I rebooted iTunes in January '05), (e)downloaded 2 free songs and paid for 6 songs, and (f)taught my dad about emo and scene (which I know thanks to Brittany) and listened to Panic! At The Disco with my dad and brother. Very musical week.
And, at the risk of embarassing myself, my top things on both my wishlists are "Foolish" - Ashanti and Present / Future - Eagle-Eye Cherry.
Off to see Stick It tonight. I'll update again after that.
